I performed in a show at Disneyland!
|My parents took me to Disneyland
for the first time when I was one year old. That day, I fell
in love with a very special mouse.
For as long as I can remember, whenever I'd watch a Disneyland parade or show, I would imagine how much fun it would be to be in it, but I never thought I would get the chance.
Then along came Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee! For each performance, twenty Disneyland guests were selected to be in the show. On December 8th, 2009, I was one of them!
We were ushered onboard the Mark Twain Riverboat. Backstage, each of us was given a long, brightly colored handkerchief. Then, one of the performers led us across the bow of the boat, and arranged us along the lower deck of the riverboat, in full view of the Disneyland guests who had assembled in New Orleans Square to watch the show. I waved my green handkerchief while the music played.
When the song was over, we were led backstage again where we traded our handkerchiefs for big wooden musical notes. We were sent onstage with our notes and moved them in time to the music. From behind my prop, I smiled at the people enjoying the show: the little girls in their princess dresses, the dads with their video cameras, my friend snapping pictures. For my big finish, I raised my note high above my head.
After the song was over, we were again guided backstage. Our props were collected and we were given costumes and tambourines for the finale. I zipped up my sparkly, sequined “choir robe” and followed my group upstairs. There, a Cast Member briefed us, “In a few seconds, some of our dancers are going to move off and you are going to take their places, one person per window. Ready? Go!”
I skipped into position, dancing, and jingling my tambourine. As I performed for our audience of happy Disneyland guests, wearing a Disneyland costume and holding a Disneyland prop, I realized something: my dream to be in a show at Disneyland had actually come true!
I did this in 2009 in Anaheim, California, USA.
