| Twice a year ever since October
2010, some of the streets of Los Angeles are cleared of cars
so that people can travel them using anything without a
motor. The event is called CicLAvia. On April 15th, 2012, a friend and I attended CicLAvia on foot. We explored the streets of Downtown LA where shops welcomed visitors and restaurants with sidewalk seating were packed with patrons. Street and parking lot games, like bicycle polo and oversized chess, and street performers offered entertainment. For me, checking out the bicycles, like the double decker ones made from two bicycle frames, was the most interesting show of all. Street parking in the area was tight. We ended up squeezed into one of the lots in Japantown at a flat rate of $6.50. |
